40232 Perform Mobile Operations

This skill standard is an ideal entry point into mobile traffic management operations and is designed for workers operating under the supervision of a mobile lead or supervisor.

This workshop is suitable for anyone who drives, operates or directs a vehicle within a mobile operation, including roadmarking, kerbside collection, and mobile plant operators.

General Overview

This is an entry level standard, for workers performing mobile operations and/or control measures. It’s designed for workers who contribute to TTM mobile work, but who are still operating under supervision of a mobile lead.

This workshop is suitable for anyone who drives, operates or directs a vehicle within a mobile operation, for example:  

  • Mobile plant operators e.g. graders, sweepers
  • Roadmarking crews
  • Weed spraying & vegetation control
  • Pavement testing
  • Kerbside collection services
  • TTM crews involved in mobile operations

Those needing to progress to supervisory level should also complete 40517 Supervise mobile operations. 

Upon successful completion of this workshop, trainees will be able to:

  • Explain the requirements for a mobile operation for TTM.
  • Perform mobile operations within the road reserve.
  • This is an entry-level course. It is aimed at NZQA Level 3, which means trainees need to have some knowledge about the topic, and be able to apply solutions to problems they are familiar with.
  • No prior qualifications are required, however trainees should have access to a workplace where these skills are being practiced. Please get in touch with us to discuss if you don’t. 
  • Vehicles
    • Mobile operations require multiple vehicles. Trainees will need to provide one vehicle.
    • The additional vehicles for the mobile operation are supplied by Trilogy Training.
    • The trainee vehicle does not need to be a TTM sign truck – a ute, SUV, light truck or other work vehicle are all suitable. Small cars are not suitable.
    • Trilogy Training will supply vehicle signage and a roof mounted beacon for the trainee vehicle, if required.  
    • If the trainee cannot supply a vehicle, Trilogy Training can supply one for them at an additional cost.
  • Driver licence
    • Where a trainee is operating a vehicle themselves, they must have a valid driver licence for that vehicle type.
    • If the trainee is not able, or prefers not to, operate the vehicle themselves they need to provide an appropriately licenced driver to drive on their behalf, who they will instruct. Please discuss with our team prior to enrolment if this is required.
    • Trilogy Training vehicles are Class 1.
  • Once achieved, Skill Standard 40232 will remain on the trainee’s NZQA Record of Achievement for life.
  • Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA), ongoing training and competency verification is required.

  • Theory Component: Trainees will engage in classroom-based learning with a theory assessment to demonstrate understanding.
  • Practical Component:
    • Trainees will complete tasks at a live worksite under the observation of a verifier and/or assessor.
    • An internal Health & Safety induction is also required before participating in the live environment.
    • We can come to your site, or you can join us at our facilities
  • The assessment will be marked as ‘Achieved’ or ‘Not Achieved.’
  • Successful trainees will be awarded Skill Standard 40232.
